Why doesn't the description meta tag work?
I wrote a description of the page on my simple site using the description meta tag, but when viewed through the search, instead of the description I specified, just the first words and phrases from the page. What could be the reason for this?

The algorithm for analyzing pages by search engines is constantly changing in order to improve the accuracy of getting the description of the page into its content. And search engines will look at both the description, the micro-markup, and the content of the heading and subheading tags.
In addition to all of the above - the algorithms are secret, SEO-offices are almost gropingly studied, plus the recommendations of the search engines themselves.
Also, search engines reserve the right to independently form a snippet if they consider the current description to be insufficiently relevant to the query.
