Why doesn't LXC start a guest system with a kernel newer than the host machine?

Why can't lxc run a system with a newer kernel than the host machine.
I tried to install Kali rolling with a 4.3 kernel on a host with Debian Jessie and poison 3.16, but it does not want to start.
