Why does the PC only boot after a BIOS reset? Why did hieroglyphs appear in the BIOS?

The computer turns on only once after resetting the BIOS by removing the battery, while in the BIOS there are obscure hieroglyphs instead of letters. The next time you turn on the motherboard, it simply does not emit a beep and the computer freezes at the boot stage: the monitor, coolers work, bridges heat up.

  • I reinstalled windows, now Windows boots in normal mode (before that, only in safe mode), but still only after a reset.
  • I updated the BIOS from a flash drive, the hieroglyphs remained.

Motherboard: gigabyte GA-P31-ES3G (rev. 1.x) socket 775.
I've never encountered anything like this, tell me what could be the problem.

Removing the battery may not reset the BIOS. Remove the battery and close the jumper that resets the CMOS settings.
