Why does the laptop not see the computer-to-computer network?
There are 2 laptops in the home network: one on Windows 7 distributes the Internet via wi-fi using the operating system; the second - for which the Internet is distributed. After updating the operating system on the second computer with Windows 8 to 8.1, all computer-to-computer connections (mine and neighbors) disappeared in the list of wireless networks. Also in the Network and Sharing Center, the ability to create such a connection has disappeared.
After the update for the wireless network adapter, drivers from Microsoft were installed, installing the native driver from the laptop manufacturer's website for Windows 7 x64 did not change anything, I also found a driver for Windows 8.1 on the Internet, the installation of which also did not lead to changes.
Wireless Network Adapter: Qualcomm Atheros AR5B95
Driver version: 10.0.0.263
I found information on the Internet that the ability to distribute was removed from the operating system, but what about connecting to such networks?
I tried to create a wireless network connection manually with the same name as the existing computer-to-computer network on the second laptop, an error pops up that there is already a network with the same name, but it does not appear in the list of available networks.
I don't know where to turn with this question, searches on the Internet did not lead to anything. I don’t want to resort to programs like connectify, they are painfully unstable, and there is no particular desire to roll back to windows 8 or install windows 7.

To be honest, the question is not clear. Removed what? If we are talking about Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), then Google says that this feature has remained in Windows (I haven’t used it for three hundred years, so I don’t know). If we are talking about Access Point (AP) technology, then this crap lies entirely with the card manufacturer and its support is in firewood.
