Why does SMART turn off on the HDD after restarting the laptop?
I have a Lenovo S9 netbook.
It has a WD10JPVX-22J hard disk installed.
Installed Ubuntu Server 14.04.
When driving, look at the smart disk ( sudo smartctl -a / dev / sda ) writes: SMART Disabled.
I turn on SMART ( smartctl -a / dev / sda) - it starts to show.
But when you reboot it all over again.
I don't really understand how SMART works. It will record the number of errors, etc. if you do not include SMART (and include only if you need to look) ???
PS: I didn’t find an item about SMART in the BIOS (it happens to be disabled at the BIOS level)
How to enable it? Or it happens that in the BIOS there is no way not to turn it on?

If it is not possible to enable this function in the BIOS, this means that you have it not complete or locked to a friend so as not to do anything extra. In this situation, you can turn on smart only in the way that you described, or if you get confused, you can create an executable file and add it to Windows startup, and then these actions will be performed automatically every time you start Windows
