Why does selenium require so much RAM?

Hello.
Selenium is installed on the VPS, elementary at startup it starts eating 400 meters of RAM, if I start to carry out some operations with it, it rises to a gigabyte and higher.
Standing in line on the local machine consumes 90 meters, although everything is configured the same.
What could be the problem?

Different server versions, different operating systems, different system environments and settings, a magnetic storm on the Moon or a chipped storm on Mars... It doesn't matter, because. something to twist vryatli succeed. Take it for granted and keep working with what you have.
PS 400 meters is not that much. I myself use a slightly different software - PhantomJS. In the process of work, 2-5GB of RAM per instance is quite a norm.
