Why does owl carousel 2 show huge height?

Wanted to add a slider to the layout? Registered a class for the block. But for some reason the .owl-item is stacked vertically, causing the .owl-stage to have a huge height. And the vertical scroll appears. And the blocks themselves are not shown, instead of them, the brown margin in chrome shows. What could be causing this behavior?
