Why does npm -v throw a Segmentation fault?

npm -v throws a Segmentation fault
Tried to install node.js from source and ran into this problem. Tell me where to dig. centos 7.6 system

npm -v , this is a node.js version request, not an installation. Naturally, he tells you that you do not have such a thing. Open the installation documentation , and see how to install it.
