Why does my HP laptop hang on press the ESC key for Startup Menu after installing Ubuntu?

Installed Ubuntu, rebooted the laptop, the following message popped up at the bottom left:
press the ESC key for Startup Menu?
Pressing ESC shows a message that it is entering the menu, but nothing else happens.
On f10 the same reaction.
What to do?

Solved the problem in the following way.
Correct steps:
1. Take out the battery.
2. Disconnected the hard drive.
3. Formatted the hard drive through another computer.
4. Disconnected the CMOS battery.
5. Inserted the battery.
6. Launched a laptop without batteries and without HDD.
7. A message about resetting the settings appeared.
8. Waited.
9. The laptop rebooted, after which I turned it off.
10. Inserted an empty HDD, connected the battery.
11. Everything is ready.
