Because the phase of the moon is wrong.
Do you seriously think that there are telepaths here who can understand what's wrong with you by one word "freezes"?

Memory could run out if they launched at the same time, for example, a virtual machine and a compilation of something large. Swap configured?
Check.

There was a similar story due to lack of RAM. It was 6 GB, usually NetBeans, Chrome, Skype + server PHP, Nginx, Mysql, Mongo were opened. That's how the RAM came to an end, the fun began. The computer lagged terribly and sometimes hung. As I understood at that moment, he began to actively swap, but the hard one did not have time to record and there was an ass. I danced with the swap parameters, it became a little easier. Without a swap, when the RAM was exhausted, it hung for sure.
Moved to a new computer with 16 GB of RAM and SSD, forgot about such problems :)

I got up dead on my laptop with Intel guts on 16.04, and searched for a problem for a long time until I found this: ... “If it hangs tightly on distra higher than 14.04.3, then 99% that this is due to Intel graphics. I had regular freezes after 20 - 40 - 90 min. It was decided so sudo gedit /etc/default/grub bring the GRUB_MDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line to the following form (if nothing was added) GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash intel_idle.max_cstate=1" Save, close. sudo update-grub And reboot. The problem should disappear if Intel HD is to blame. "... IT HELPED ME. I specifically drove for a week without reloading the video in the chrome browser.
