Why does empty have 2 versions of python installed?

I'm a complete newbie to linux and I don't quite understand why there are 2 pythons installed in linux, and how to remove one of the versions?

Because python 3 and python 2.7 are not compatible with each other. Some programs use version 2.7, some 3.
