Why does Chrome remove the URL when the [closed] page is canceled?

Situation:

I enter the address, the page starts loading,
suddenly I press <escape>, the loading stops
at the address bar "chrome://newtab" or the address of the previous page if the tab is not new.

I want the address to be saved. How to do it?

I thought maybe not just <escape>, but something else. In general, nefiga.

It looks like Google's logic here - if the page did not load, then there can be no question of the entered URL, because the page does not
exist , but this is so far only my suspicions, based on pieces of information, here I'm not 100% sure.
