Why does an error occur when changing an Ubuntu file?

Driver for wifi module from broadcom: proprietary, I try to activate monitor mode, as written in readme by changing the brcm_monitor0 file, from root or not from root, gives me an Input / output error by any means, turned off wifi during editing, does not help.

what does strace say? and debuggers

See if the kernel says anything in /var/log/messages or the dmesg command. Maybe it doesn't find something or the driver doesn't support it.

I also had such a problem, I don’t remember how I solved it, but it’s much easier to install the free b42 driver - everything works on it without problems, only the light does not blink on the laptop.
