Why does amazon vps crash?

Hello.
I use amazon aws instances (1gb ram, 30ssd), installed vestacp (disabled access to the web panel and closed phpmyadmin and webmail links), installed wordpress and a couple of plugins that have 1 million+ downloads each (that is, there is no slag). For a couple of days everything was ok, but today the server started to fall (that is, periodically for 5-10 minutes I can’t access the site and the server).

Look inside, monitor traffic during peak activity, read logs. It can be seen that the CPU goes to 100% and even loans begin to be used. Perhaps you should take a virtual machine more powerful

I assume, how do you describe crash is what you will first want to investigate?
Does the kernel of a machine panic or is it not responding (somewhat if the CPU was overuse and saturated)??
Is it SSH authentication, or are it just HTTP applications?
Does the application have any error in the log files (usually found in the /var/log directory) in which the users register?
