Why does a 500 error occur on timeout?

Hello! I do long polling. When there is no result within 60 seconds. then instead of 504 Gateway Timeout the error 500 Internal Server Error comes. I use open server, but also uploaded to hosting, the situation is the same there. I'm making a site from scratch (not CMS) and I don't change http answers anywhere.
