Why do we need a changelog?

If I'm the one developing the program, do I need to start a changelog file? If so, how can it benefit one developer?
If I work in a team, do we need to keep a changelog file? If yes, what benefit can it bring to us?

A detailed Changelog will help you remember all the edits and innovations that you have made, it will help you navigate the code and help you identify new bugs. Changelog is also needed to notify users about new functionality. In addition, you will be able to track your performance, especially if each more or less significant edit will be supplied with a date.
