Why do system freezes occur?

Faced a very serious problem - errors are everywhere on a clean ubuntu mate.
I closed the lid of the laptop and opened it - it freezes tightly (even ctrl alt f1 does not work), turned on the laptop and it is not connected to the network - the same thing. Incorrectly breathed on the laptop - freezing.
Before the last shutdown, I set 2 layouts - en and ru. Now I turn it on - only Russian is available. You can’t log into the root and account, only through the guest.
I read about freezes that the firewood does not work correctly from the video card - I tried to install it through the dist update - now it does not turn on at all. I had to install a clean ubuntu so that it would put everything in order, because mate does not want to do this even after more than a dozen reinstallations.
