Why do I need a place to store files when installing Ubuntu?

UNetBootin when installing Ubuntu LiveUSB has:

Used to store files created by the user while working with the liveCD.
You may not create any additional space if you do not plan to save anything.
In other words, the point is not just to boot an alternative system, but the point is to boot up, work, save your work on the additional space of the flash drive, pull out the flash drive and put it in your pants pocket, leaving nothing to the enemy.
