Why do freelancers stay on the stock exchange?

Often I see answers on the Toaster that after N number of months on the exchange, freelancers have a constant flow of clients and they simply do not need to stay on the exchange. But why then such a mass of people who have been sitting on the stock exchange for years, and they are not intermediaries?

Dmitry correctly commented:

Not everyone is interested in poking around in the same project for years. And often, for one customer, all projects are of the same type, although they pay well.
Man needs constant development. If it is not there, but there are light grandmothers, then you get dumber, like a beast, simply, that's all.
Therefore, I want to move on, look for new projects, pump my brain.

Plus, the exchange is a convenient tool to turn transactions so that the client is calm. better than direct work.

Because the rules of the exchange strictly forbid working outside of it. What if a client gives up? Yes, well, him. It's better to follow the rules.

Some activities, as a rule, are small things, which the vast majority of on the exchange do not imply repeated work with the same client. Or at least frequent re-work with the same client.
A regular client is usually a large client, these are usually complex tasks.
There are an overwhelming minority of those on the stock exchanges.
Example:
If you are a website designer, then even if the client really, really liked you, he remembered you and recognized / recorded / did not forget your coordinates, then the next time (if this is not a web studio that makes sites in batches) he will contact you for website redesign in 3 years. It will take you a week to complete the order. Thus, even if you have 10 such regular customers, you will still have absolutely nothing to eat very soon.

Regular customers fall off over time. Usually a freelancer grows above himself, and customers do not change their niche, they need cheap ones, you have gained more skill, you ask him to refuse by itself, and you will find someone who is ready to pay you so much.

Good and don't linger. They are returned only when regular customers run out of tasks.

Почему фрилансеры задерживаются на бирже?

Firstly, freelancers are different - someone does the design, someone writes the code, someone admin.
Secondly, the exchange is one of the freelancer's tools for finding orders. Some people know how to use this tool, some don't. Not everyone is happy with this tool.
For example, I tried, and in principle it worked out well in terms of finances, but not mine. It’s not interesting, there are a lot of annoying things, it’s easier and more profitable for me to look for customers in other ways.
And some do not want to search - the exchange is a great thing in this regard, it finds itself.

I'll tell you for myself: let's take freelance.ru - the place where I started my work.
Why didn’t I enter this exchange already six months after the start of work? There are several reasons for this:
1. The first and most important point is that I found several regular clients who liked working with me. I have been working with one of them for a year now and together with him we form some kind of one system (he has a stream of clients, I have ideas for development). I just cooperate with others: a project appeared, they sent me all the details, agreed on payment, completed it - received payment.
2. I really don't like paying 400 rubles a month for a business account, and 3 applications a day is not much. Considering that another 50 people are applying for your place. Yes, 400 rubles is generally a penny, they can be beaten off in 10-100 times from one project, but the thought that I will pay 400 rubles, I will immediately find a project and will not enter the exchange for 2-3 weeks, it annoys me.
3. Level of customers. To be honest, I have a very bad opinion about the employees on such exchanges. I am wildly strained by people who position themselves as specialists, guarantee mountains of gold, and you look at their projects - everything is torn off, done on the knee in 2 hours. Hence the level of customers. A lot of people have done shit with such employees, so getting paid in advance, and generally worthwhile payment, is very difficult. Most will hang themselves for a couple of thousand rubles, even if they understand that such costs are quite justified.
4. As Dmitry saidthe level of projects also leaves much to be desired, for the most part people ask for the same type of landing page for 5-10k rubles. Another calculator, of which you have already written 3 dozen. All this does not inspire work at all. As I work with regular clients, from time to time I have very interesting tasks, after which there is no point in freelancing at all.

I think the main reason here is that people are simply afraid to look for something new and leave their usual comfort zone, the exchange is needed for a maximum of 1-2 years, as a transitional step to a higher career...
