Why do empty .tmp files appear on a flash drive?

The root of the USB flash drive was opened in the explorer. I drank tea, so the computer was inactive. At one point, I noticed how a file like rtrBB93.tmp appeared and immediately disappeared. He restored it right away. Its size is 1,073,741,824 bytes. Fully filled with zeros. I went through the folders and found another 9DF633D1.tmp (39,794 bytes). Same with zeros.

What can generate them? Windows is clean. Win10x64 20h2

This is most likely Windows ReadyBoost. At least the first (seven-character) file name is also similar. You can turn it off if you wish.
The file it creates may also be called ReadyBoostPerfTest.tmp , and if my memory serves me, perf.tmp or perftest.tmp .
