Why did the [git, bitbucket] project directory recurse?

This is my first time dealing with a version control system. I created a repository on bitbucket, everything seems to be correct. But when I looked at the files, I was a little surprised (see screenshot).
When I looked at the PC in the root directory, I saw the same thing, the project folder "project" inside the "project" folder.
recursion in general.
In general, is this normal? Or I did something wrong.
