Why can't virtual machines see each other on the network?
You need to share a folder between two virtual machines (created in VirtualBox, laboratory work is like this). They are in the same domain, one of them is a domain controller. There is a folder on it, to which one of the users has full access.
Actually, I managed to add a machine to the domain and share the folder, the machines ping, but they don’t see each other in the Network tab in the explorer, respectively, there is no access to the folder. But they see the rest of the "real" computers.
Connection type - network bridge, mask and gateway, as in a home network.
This happens both if you add a workstation to the domain from another computer, and if virtual machines are created on the same computer.

Why do people never stop using network discovery? Access the machine directly: \\fqdn\share_name or \\ip\share_name
Most importantly, when connecting machines to the network, you must select the type of network connection - the enterprise network - any other types break (reconfigure policies) beyond recognition and greatly interfere with the usual way of working together on the network.
Network discovery must first use a wins server, this role must be on the server, most often combined with a domain controller, otherwise random machines on the network will take on this role, and it will take tens of minutes to collect information about machines. This should work without a domain controller as it is a windows for workgroup mechanism.
At least it was before windows 8, I suppose after that something was added or disabled in the detection system in the default policies. Network discovery no longer works in windows 10 without a domain controller.
When using a domain, as far as I understand, Microsoft insists that administrators set up dfs, without a domain, it’s enough to set up a folder on one machine in which there will be links (lnk files are created in Explorer - ordinary icons) to machines and balls on the network.
