Why can't I see the master branch from github locally?

I just started learning git yesterday, now I'm facing the problem described in the title. On the github itself, there are two branches main (it is the main one) and master. And only master is visible locally. I'd like to delete main (remove the master branch if possible) and make master the master branch.
