Why can't I configure the action when closing the lid of a msi U100 Debian (xfce) laptop?

in the settings there are three actions when closing the lid: turn off the screen, sleep mode, turn off.
I chose to turn off the screen (regardless of whether it is connected to charging or not)
But the laptop goes into sleep mode and does not wake up correctly (after entering the login / password, a dark screen with a cursor)
