Why can't git see the cloned repository?

Initially, I already have folders with other folders and files, which I would like to send regularly via github to my friend. These files are already on the github, so I just made a git clone and ... The git does not see the entire cloned repository. Outputs "nothing to commit, working tree clean". Has anyone experienced something similar and what can be done about it? Thanks in advance
