Why can not the PS2 joystick work on arduino?

I'm trying to set up a joystick connection according to the instructions .
The module and the joystick connect (at least the LEDs stop flashing), but nothing is displayed, only a message that the joystick is not connected.
What could be the reasons?

You can try adding suspenders to the signal lines.
