Why are XDTO packages needed?

Hello! The task is to accept and send certain data from / to the Web service. The manuals say that XDTO packages play some role here, even an example of implementation is given, but there are no examples of use, it’s completely unclear why this is needed, please explain on your fingers. It is possible on the example of the Web stack, it would be absolutely ideal. Thanks in advance!

If you do not understand, then you need HTTP services (REST).
XDTO - if on the fingers, then this is the key difference between a Web service (SOAP) and an HTTP service. The package describes all possible data types that can be parameters and responses of functions. An attempt to send a structure that does not match the description (for example, for an invoice for payment, it may be mandatory to fill in the amount, and you passed zero there), will cause a validation error even before calling the remote server and the server receives the guaranteed correct expected data structure for processing. It is a self-documented technology. If you want to send and receive anything, then this is not for you.
You can google for more details about SOAP and XDTO - there is a sea of information on the Internet.
