Why are web languages interpreted?

Just do not snort and grin now! Yes, the question may be amateurish, but please clarify.
My guess is that CGI is involved , but that's just guesswork.
Please explain briefly and clearly.

Erlang, Go, OCaml, Haskell, Clojure, Common Lisp, Java, and Scala can all be classified as web languages and are compilable. Why are PHP/Perl/Python/Ruby more commonly used for the web? Apparently this is due to the lower entry threshold.
