Why are there problems adding a new site to the Google index (redirect to https, redirect from www), how to do it right?
Good afternoon. I ran into unexpected problems when adding a completely new site to Google.
Previously, there was experience only with regular sites, without a redirect from www to the root domain, and without the https version.
How I did everything:
1. Added https
a version to the Search Console
2. Added a Sitemap, flew away to Pending
3. Then I remembered I tried to put Preferred Domain on the version without www
, but the system gave me an error that I need to verify first www
4. Scratching my head and googling it came up with what I need repeat the whole process again, i.e. add exactly the same https
version, but now with www
5. Sitemap DID NOT ADD this time (right?)
6. I tried again to put Preferred Domain, again I got an error that I need to verify the domain.
7. After scratching the back of my head and googling, I realized that I need to repeat the whole process again, BUT for http
site versions, i.e. add 2 MORE SITES (WTF? Is it always necessary to add 4 versions of one site???)
8. Sitemap was also NOT added (shouldn't it? Damn, how confused everyone) It
's been day 5, Sitemap is still hanging in Pending . A couple of days ago, here's what else was tried:
1. The Sitemap syntax is correct, the urls are correct ( https
without www
)
2. I tried Fetch as Google for a couple of pages. Well, they kind of screwed up. The sitemap is still Pending. These pages are not in search results either
3. robots.txt is correct, nothing is blocked
4. Re-sent the Sitemap by pinging from the console. Zero effect
Guys, what is this?
How to add a site step by step with a redirect to https
and a redirect from www
UPD
Performed Resubmit Sitemap - finally indexed overnight, but Index Status 0 pages. Why?
