Why are some keys not working on a laptop?

Some keys do not work on an HP laptop with Windows 10. Before that, the shift did not work, but then it worked on its own. Maybe this is some kind of software error, and not a technical one? In any case, tell me where to look for the problem.

If non-working keys are in the same row or approximately in the same column (perhaps diagonally, the tracks go differently in different keyboards), then with a high probability the conductive path on the keyboard is broken. In this case, it can periodically work, then lose contact and stop working.
To discard a software problem, boot from a boot disk / flash drive from another OS (for example, Linux) and check if the same problem manifests itself or not, or check the keys in the BIOS if there are fields for entering text.
