Why are images not showing in IE8?

There was a problem. Now I'm developing a site - and at the moment the images on the main page are not displayed (there is just an empty space where they should be) if you open it through IE8
(everything is fine in chrome. Haven't tested it in other browsers yet).
Moreover, if you turn on the compatibility mode, then they are displayed, but the rest of the layout goes.

Images in the tag? Try giving them sizes inside the tag.

Maybe it's the background-size. Have you looked in newer versions of IE?
Without the source code, but rather a link, it's hard to say something definite
