Why are container changes not saved?

Launched a container with warm, created a new database with data in it.
Now, if I do a docker kill on this container, then the next time I start from the image, I won’t have any base. This is clear. Accordingly, I do a docker commit and get a new image in the list of images, but it is exactly the same as the original one. If I run it, then again, there is no database there and I have to create everything again.
Where is the mistake?
