There are many popular platforms with free courses: Coursera, edX, Udacity, Khan Academy, and many others.
In most cases, the ideology is supported that education should be free. These platforms are called: MOOC - Massive Open Online Courses. Monetization occurs in many ways - advertising, paid certificates, support from mentors, sponsors, and more.
