Why are aliases needed in a database?

When raising the migration, the lecturer creates aliases in the database tables.
What are they needed for?

The main purpose of aliases is to eliminate ambiguity in the presence of tables/fields of the same name.
Additionally - naming convenience, especially when the original names are long.
If there are more meanings, but they are minor.
