Why add a revision number to the footer?

Hello!
The project manager insists on adding the revision number to the footer of the site. When asked why this is necessary, he replied: "for the convenience of developers." At the same time, this information will be seen by the end user, and developers have git for these purposes. What do you think? Is this info necessary in your opinion?

The revision number is vryatle, and the version of the site, for example, is sometimes written. And if this is only for developers, then you can add commented code<!-- Revision: 1.2.3 -->
