Who uses the Roots tools and the Sage theme? What are the benefits?

Hi all. From time to time I meet in the requirements in vacancies knowledge of Bedrock and, in particular, the topic of Sage . I ran through the sources and configs, but I still don’t understand why it is needed if, for example, I have my starter theme with a configured composer and webpack. What is the point of using templates? Weed out possible students who might try to finish your project? I'm not sure that this will somehow affect the cleanliness and speed of writing code. But maybe I'm wrong?
