Who has experience building Eclipse CDT from source?

It is interesting to build and debug Eclipse CDT (C/C++ Development Tooling) from source to understand how CDT works "under the hood".
I did it as described in the documentation from the manufacturer " Getting started with CDT development ", but

• build errors remain in the project, which are not yet clear how to overcome
  
• and in general it is not clear what to run and how to debug. Where is the treasured "mainEntry"
