I understood the essence of the work of SDN, tried to work with the help of mininet, but it's interesting that you can implement something yourself on this topic, which will not take much time.

There's a lot to do there. It remains to decide at what level)
1) Switches - there are no real SDN switches yet (stupid, cheap, with hardware implementation of the concept), there are firmware for traditional equipment, but this is not it;
2) Southern interface - not a coursework level, probably.
3) Northern interface - here you can play around and work on routing algorithms. There are many tasks and different levels.
4) East-West interfaces - an open topic, few people understand how multicontroller networks will work.
