Are there good books or websites about website promotion?
Interested specifically in the promotion of portals in Russia.
Perhaps someone has their own experience in attracting visitors to the resource, someone will advise something.
I'm working on my project now, I'm doing well with programming, but alas, how to attract visitors to the site. Didn't work.

From serious books - Ashmanov and Ivanov "Optimization and promotion of sites in search engines." Unfortunately, the book has not been republished for a long time, so in many ways it can be considered outdated. But there are systematized and well-submitted basic knowledge of the basics of SEO (what is the semantic core, etc.).
It is better to look for relevant information in blogs and newsletters.
First of all: devaka.ru . There are many generalizing articles - including where to start.
blog.seopult.ru/ is designed to promote their service, but the articles are good.
shakin.ru - there has been a lot of advertising lately, but there are many valuable articles, including those on free promotion.
Enough for a start.

A programmer and an advertiser (SEO) are different professions, so you decide who you want to be. Knowing how to do both is difficult. SUCCESS to do both is incredibly difficult.

Everywhere only introductory superficial information.
Everything is better through trial and error, since now hosting and domains are not expensive.
A couple of years of experimentation and you will adapt and develop your own scheme.

Re-read hundreds of blogs, sites and forums about website promotion, make an exhaustive list of ways, test the most promising ones, leave the most effective ones, discard the rest.
Also google articles like "50/100/200 drive traffic" in Russian and English. Like this: " 100 affordable ways to get free traffic ... "
