Which Ubuntu desktop environment is suitable for a weak machine?

There is a weak PC Pentium 4 2.8; 1 GB RAM; GT7200S
Computer for parents for Internet Skype and mail.
What environment will be more productive? (except xfce)
I want to install KDE myself - just like it.

Forget Wishlist and install either Lubuntu or Xubuntu.
Will not fly, but tolerable. There is a worker with P4 3Ghz; 1.5Gb Ram on Xubuntu 12.04.

Why don't you like xfce? On the arch on the old laptop flies. And so gnome2 is a good environment. Mate is not recommended. And as already mentioned above: Lubuntu and Xubuntu.

Yes, you are fried! Weak PC! Gig operatives and the fourth stump!
It will pull any environment. You can try Mint or Elementary.
I have Xubuntu on an Eee PC 701 - what a weak computer.

You seem to have already decided everything for yourself.
But look towards mate and gnome 2

Forget Lubuntu with Xubuntu.
The fastest Elementary OS.

Don't listen to anyone. The lightest DEs are LXDE and E17.
In addition to DE, do not forget about lightweight software: FM-pcmanfm, browser-midori, etc.
However, I want to note that your computer is not so weak.

LXDE is lighter than XFCE, and that's with the same wretched environment! Now, for example, I have 80MB of RAM used on Debian stable + LXDE.
