Which tablet should I take for uploading apk directly for testing?

I downloaded Android Studio, I want to make a couple of projects for my portfolio so that there is at least something. I would like to upload immediately to a real device and see the result, and not pull rubber through the Google market. What device do you recommend? Or does it matter - is there some kind of developer mode?
