Which program is suitable for opening and editing (DWG, DWS)?

How can I open a file created in AutoCAD. I have an error in the top level drawing and by clicking "OK" - continue, black background. This is after restoring from a drawing backup file (BAK), and before that there was a message that the file format was not defined.
I'm thinking of opening it with another editor....
