Which OC to choose for a weak laptop?
Hello. Such situation - mum uses Samsung NP305U1A laptop. Under the hood, it has an AMD E-450 APU processor, a video adapter - AMD Radeon HD 6320, RAM - 2 GB. Installed W7 Home Basic 32x activated and a minimum set of applications - chrome, kaspersky and cloud mail ru. The laptop is used for climbing in OK and on YouTube, as well as for storing photos with synchronization in the cloud. But even with this use, the laptop is fiercely slow. Folders or files open for a few seconds, in general, everything is terribly slow. Wifi drops out from time to time and only reboot saves. Already tried to install Windows again, tried to install XP - but it's all garbage.
I hope someone will tell you what OS to put on it. The main thing is that everything works without lags and brakes: browser, surfing, YouTube videos and online movies. Stable WiFi. The presence of the Cloud Mail.Ru application, well, so that an antivirus is not required (I have heard myths that such systems are not needed on linux). I tried to somehow install Remix OS, but the laptop does not seem to be compatible with it.

It is worth paying attention to Xubuntu, Lubuntu, they come with a "light" environment (xfce and lxde, respectively), based on Ubuntu (which is on Debian (a lot has been written on it in the open spaces)), everything is there (well, or almost everything, depending for specific requests) is and works out of the box.
If you smoke the manuals a little, you can look towards ArchLinux, in this case you can do everything exclusively for yourself, without unnecessary fake whistles.
And yes, antivirus is not needed on linux, but if you plan to exchange files with machines on a mastday (and if you feel sorry for them)) then you should still put some kind of checker))
I myself have a worse configuration from the factory and even Win 8, but for several seconds the folders did not open and do not open, unless of course 5 tabs from YouTube are open in the browser.
It is necessary to repair such a laptop, and not to select an OS.
Sounds like a hard drive problem.
The exact answer will give diagnostics.
You can do without antivirus in Windows. Take away administrator rights and prohibit the launch of programs other than those installed by the administrator through local policies.
Chrome can be replaced with firefox and add the adblock and h264fy extensions to it (it forces you to give video with the h264 codec and old video cards can digest it in hardware) for YouTube.
Updates, background defragmentation, etc. hdd horrors can be disabled.
First, how much does a hard drive cost? (Looking ahead, I'll say - buy a 120 GB SSD and don't worry about it)
Secondly: SMART this screw in the studio.
Your screw most likely died or is dying, and from this all the lags. Put the ssd in, roll a seven on it and let mom still enjoy the videos and kinchiks on the old laptop)))
uninstall kaspersky and install microsoft security essentials. immediately any system will work faster.
Sazhyk was right. First, change the HDD to an SSD. and secondly, change the memory to a larger die (4GB). Then there will be fewer calls to the swap, as a result, less work with the hard disk / ssd.
Otherwise, they don’t see the slowest link in the PC point-blank and try to solve the problem with software
1. Replacing HDD with SSD. Starting from 120 GB. The increase in speed will be enormous.
2. Increase the RAM (RAM) up to 4 GB.
3. Freshly installed Windows 7 on SSD. At 4 GB we set 64 bits, at 2 GB - 32.
4. NOD32 instead of Kaspersky
5. PROFIT !!!
I think the laptop is overheating, so it slows down. try to look at the temperature through the speedfan program and if the temperature is under 70 or more, then disassemble and clean it. If the temperature is normal, then the problem is with the hard.
spending money on spare parts for an old laptop is pointless - it's better to save money for a new laptop.
do not install Linux - it is buggy as if it were not in itself and is only suitable for servers.
Try PuppyRus Linux, very light, there are special builds for old or weak hardware.
My father put Linux Runtu on his weak netbook. Can't rejoice.
The stock axis was win7 start x32
