Which Linux distribution to put on a weak AMD machine?

Notebook Specifications:

  • Processor: AMD Athlon dual-core m340 2.2Ghz
  • RAM: 1.7GB
  • SSD: Intel 128Gb
  • Graphics: AMD Rs880

The laptop is already 10 years old if not more, the new SSD has added speed to it, but the Ubuntu shell is not so responsive, you have to wait 3-10 seconds until the usual application menu opens. Therefore, we need the most responsive and simple distribution kit for working with browsers, and periodic toys.
I installed Ubuntu with GNOME Shell, but extensions sometimes crash, on some distributions, in order for the sound to work, you need to restart the laptop a couple of times.
Recommend a 64 bit distribution but one that consumes the minimum amount of resources.
Preferably based on Ubuntu/Debian. It will also be great if there is a LiveUSB image.
I read some forums where they advised i3 or Awesome, but these utilities are not familiar to me, so I ask more knowledgeable people what would you recommend from visually simple, responsive and stable for such tasks?
