Other things being equal, of course, it is better to use managed installations (in someone's cloud) - be it Amazon, Google or Azure.
For the rest - if it's bare metal, then there are hard way, kubeadm, kubespray options, you can roll it out through rke (there will be an author's version of kubernetes from rancher). You can take OKD - a free version of Openshift - it is rolled out through ansible scripts
Regarding HOW TO DO fault tolerance - there are a lot of options and they all depend on what options are available from the infrastructure side. Without this, further discussion would simply be pointless. We stopped at MetalLB out of poverty, but this is far from a universal solution. And, yes, I have not seen an automation that would install this thing automatically
