You can take any iPhone from 7 and above. If you don't need to work with a fingerprint or a face scan and all that, then the iOS version is of primary importance. You are not purely for development, but for yourself too, right? Because if it's purely for development, you can take some used junk like the iPhone 6 (with 1 GB of RAM), with a broken screen (to make it cheaper). But on the other hand, if you make an application that has high system requirements (a cool game, for example), then there may not be enough resources, or you will suffer from testing.
Android already needs a whole fleet of devices. And testing for this reason is usually outsourced. But this is a completely different story, you have development purely for Apple.
