Which graphics card to choose: Nvidia or Amd?

A computer will be assembled in the next 1.5 months for games at medium-high, programming (but without using a video card). All under Linux distributions. There was a question when choosing a video card. From what I remembered:
Nvidia - Games are optimized for it, like less power consumption.
Amd - There is a full-fledged open source driver (amdgpu), Valve supports its development.

Nvidia - slightly more powerful graphics cards. I do not recommend open source firewood for Linux, they are slower and will fit only for Stallman.
AMD will work too. The "suffering" was due to the end of support for older AMD under Ubuntu 16.04. Those. if you take a new one, then this does not threaten you.

Nvidia.
The fact that there is an open source driver does not mean that everything will be fine, go read on the forums the suffering of AMD card owners under Linux

I would go for broke and take AMD. Well, actually in a couple of months. All the same, it is VEGA that interests me, and what is now ... Not even cheaper, all of a sudden. Well, nVidia has a lot of software goodies, and technologically advanced cards... Interesting, super-scalar and all that. Yes, and the company itself is suitable, even without serious competition it moves the field forward, unlike Intel, which has gone completely crazy.
