Which distribution kit to choose for a weak PC?
I have an old desktop PC. I don’t remember the characteristics, but the RAM is about 1GB, the percentage is old, respectively. The PC was given for a while, but later forever, there is the seventh Windows. But it is not comfortable to use, even the start with a response opens. The contents of the folders load for 10 seconds (that's why, I think, they didn't take everything). I want to consult, will the mint pull on a Mate or a rat? Or will I have to install some kind of Lubuntu? I myself have been using Linux recently, but I got used to Mint.

Alas, Linux is never easier than Windows. You can try Xubuntu (Lubuntu is in a strange state right now and I wouldn’t use it), but now the browser is waiting for all the resources and it’s difficult to do something here. Without a memory upgrade, you will not notice the increase. It is advisable to purchase an SSD. And I think even with a weak processor it will be possible to live well.
Your choice is 32-bit Xubuntu.
And I do not recommend installing XP even on calculators.
