Which CMS to choose for a writer's site?

It is necessary to add new chapters to books, to combine some books into cycles, to keep a blog; make a subscription to each book separately and to site news.
You should be able to get comments on every chapter and every news item on the site.
It is very necessary to make it easy to add chapters and set up everything necessary for promotion in search engines.
Sites on "WordPress" do not like their design, and "Joomla!" intimidated by complexity. Maybe there are other options?

The design of WP sites can be anything. It does not depend on CMS. In general, I can say that WP is the best CMS today for medium and small sites, made for people. There is simply no cooler and more convenient. So I advise you to take a closer look at Wordpress, and look for themes whose design you like)

At the moment - Wordpress is the best solution. In terms of security, you can hack any CMS, and in wordpress you can close the most obvious vulnerabilities yourself (the network is full of articles on this topic, business for half an hour maximum).
The engine is very convenient in that you can do everything for free, and if the budget allows, there are a lot of paid plug-ins and templates on the network, so to speak, for every taste and color. I have been using the engine for 3 years now and never cease to rejoice.
