You will have to work anyway in all, if you are concerned about such a thing as cross-browser compatibility. And so, in my opinion, Chrome is like a de facto standard :)
firefox + firebug + firebug plugins
This bundle does all the built-in consoles and developer tools.
And one more thing: ff + firebug, unlike chrome + firebug, allows you to debug code for local files (file:///D:/temp/index.html)
Chrome Fox and small Ie :) both are better, at least for tests. The fox is more convenient in terms of js debugging, and it shows more errors without a routine in the timeline. And chrome is like a webkit and everything, that and bugs are different for them. Mozilla's indents are sometimes buggy and prefixes should still be used.
Chrome is perfect for everything, Firefox is perfect for responsive layout. And then the taste and color.
Firefox Nightly has a built-in IDE for the web ... - yesterday's article from habr
What's stopping you from using both? Since you find pluses in one and the other (which is true, both are good in their own way, I mean chrome and firebug).
I put the choice on firefox + firebug, because it is only convenient to view variables sent by AJAX in it
